Flakes.

Oh where are they; those flakes that be
i've been waiting so long; so long to kiss thee
said you'd come floating down; down & down until you touch the ground
and make the trees white; and make the huts white
and fill my heart with ebullient delight.

oh where are they; those flakes that be
the flakes that but are no more flakes; only flaky
the air outside cold and dank; the soil wet
the sky a hazy white; but no sign of thee
like a cruel reminder of what was never to be.

oh where are they; those flakes that be
for waiting for thee, i've lost my glee
did you just melt and the clouds swallow you?
or did you just evaporate before you saw me?
or did you just have not the heart; to keep the promise that be.

oh where are they; those flakes that be
for i can wait for thee; but wait not for eternity
fill with white my courtyard and the trees
fill my heart; that pines for thee
the flakes of snow; the flakes that be.
